OUR STORY

In 1984, the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) put a moratorium on the number of commercial rafting permits allowed which is now home to only 24 permits that contribute to the $43M+ of local economy within our 50-mile radius. For all of our guests and friends reading this: thank you.

While working a job flying bush planes in Alaska, former world champion freestyle kayaker Kip Gilliam heard from his good friend Claude Terry (name drop: also Jimmy Carter's best friend) that the Southeastern River Expeditions property was for sale. Already owning a small farm in Ocoee, the thought of owning a rafting outfit never crossed Kip's mind until then.
Kip founded Cascade Outdoors in September 2003 and is one of the few remaining owner-operated outfits in the area. Two decades later, Cascade Outdoors is home to the most world-champion level guides of any outpost in the world and has proudly taken over 100,000 guests down the Ocoee River - many times over. We always have been and always will be excited to adventure with you!
